I almost always use Claude when shopping online, to find unknown unknowns. And I loved using Claude to plan a recent trip, instead of not bothering to plan at all because it’s so tedious. Just as a counterexample.

You are using Claude like people use search engines. Back then there were tons of people who said they don’t need the internet or google to buy things just like they say the same things with AI

But people don’t control the market. Once Amazon bullied their way to 50% of all retail sales people no longer had a choice. It’s all coming from the same warehouses so you might as well get the lowest price

If it’s cost effective to have an LLM operated business, that business will outcompete the ones you like until they either fold or end up looking like everybody else.

With your personal agent, you can use it for everything YOU want to do and I can use mine for everything I want to do.

But we both log onto Amazon and are greeted by Rufus, a stranger that I’m sure most people have no interest in using.

And maybe shopping is a bad example, but AI is getting jammed into EVERYTHING and I’m sure that’s not the end result.

I don’t know if I would see ”Now I'm the only go person so guess who gets paged for everything” as an improvement.

Last time I was looking, a year or so ago, I sent out dozens of applications and got zero interviews. Last time I switched jobs, in 2022, I sent out the same amount of applications and >50% led to one or more interviews (and eventually two offers).

That is not what ”innovate” means, you’re mixing it up with ”invent”. You could argue that they never invented anything, but not that they haven’t had, and continue to have, plenty of innovations the past decades.

Think every product that was one way, then Apple did it differently and suddenly every product on the market looked like theirs. That’s a long list of both hardware and software.

On the other hand, when was the last time any mass market tech product was _invented_ by that definition (something no one else has done before)? Most products are incremental improvements, even innovations are rare when it comes to mass market products.

I think it’s a fine label. I have skill and interest in all of those areas. Some things requires specialists, most jobs out there don’t.

I just tried on my iPhone and it does not do that, there is no countdown. It will force a passcode and give you the option to call SOS, shut off your phone or show your medical id.

It's a setting (Settings > Emergency SOS). It used to be on by default and do a little siren sound before calling emergency services.

Personally, I just open the slide-to-turn-off phone screen instead (hold volume + side button for a couple seconds). Once that screen is loaded, it'll require a passcode to unlock after you cancel out.

I used to do that too, capitalizing the first letter and appending 1.
